International PR Expert

Before entering the corporate world, Thomas Yao was a journalist at China’s national English language newspaper - China Daily. His areas of interests included economic & social reform issues, and science & technology developments. 

Over decades of industrial and global experience, he has built up profound knowledge and hands-on expertise in corporate PR, brand and product communications as well as issue and crisis management. He has lead several key communications and PR management roles with renowned multinational and Chinese companies, including Alcatel, Ford, Goldwind and Qoros Auto. 

As a former director of communications, Thomas helped build Changan Ford JV’s communications team from scratch. His leadership played a key role in strategising Ford’s new branding campaign as well as a series of new car lunches.

In addition to his extensive experience, he is a former PR Director of Goldwind - the world’s second largest wind turbine manufacturer. Thomas’ significant contribution to the success of the company earned him the reputation as one of the innovators of wind technology.

Over the past years, Thomas has been worked as an independent consultant; providing strategic communications consultancy for companies mainly from auto and renewable energy sectors.
